1 Ton 4 Wheel Disk and 38x16 TSL\'s stop great- thankfully!

I had a scare this morning from an accident which happened right in front of me at about 50 mph where two cars met each other and came to a dead stop (they were ok). The details aren't as important as how fast the truck came to a stop and remained in control, even through momentarily locking the inside rear as I swerved to miss. I've been contemplating getting rid of the big TSL's due to their soft rubber compoind and poor wear characteristics on the road but not any more. Ironicly, the truck stopped so fast I didn't really need to swerve after all. It's been my experience that flexy suspension, big tires and big lift on a heavy truck tend to stop slow... but hydraboost brakes, 1 ton conversion and 14bolt disk really came together for me, maybe the ford 57's soft ride and the anti wrap bar had a bit to do with it too, but they all get a hands down positive review from me, and my 4 year old son (who thought the whole incident was a riot)!

At least you took the time to upgrade important safety systems in your truck. Who knows, if it wasn't for the time/money invested into the breaks and suspension system you could be singing a different tune. Glad everybody is ok!

Also a good way to test the seat upholstery in 'compression'...

Funny you mention that. I was on the way back to work after dropping off a buddy at a shop to pickup his car. I was cruising down the street, looked away for a second to wave to my bud as he turned. I look back and there is a Accord only about 4-5 car lengths away... and I was at about 40mph. Needless to say, I slammed on the brakes (dual piston calipers on the D60, and rear 3/4 ton brakes in the rear on the 14BFF) and totally suprising to me, the truck stopped about 3ft away from the Accord. And let me tell you my seat cusion was WAY compressed too! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif My stupid mistake, but the 36" swampers and the truck held in there for me, and stopped even though I was sure there wasnt enough room to bring the rig to a stop from 40mph in time.

Should have seen the look on that poor lady's face in the rear view as she saw my bumper come howling here way in a cloud of Swamper smoke! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif Oooops! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif
