I am in the middle of regearing the front, also putting a mini-spool in there too. I am green to these gear swaps.....anyway, i pressed the new pinion race on and went to assemble. I don't know if my compressor is up to it, but it would not tighten all the way (1/64 play, no preload. Is it common to have a shim under the pinion bearing race? Thanks for any help, great place here!

Are you trying to crush the crush sleeve? if so, we had problems with this also. A trick is to take the crush sleeve and put it in a press and jus slightly start the crush and then install it. We have a pretty big cmpressor here and we couldn't get the sleeve to crush and were told to use that trick.

Yep, I have that problem too. I have had to take the crush sleeve and put it in a press to get the sleeve some slack. After spending some time with a big impact gun and the sleeve not budging, it was press time. That did the trick. Just becareful not to crush too much. Just enough to get it "broken in".
