Yep, he's right. '82 was the last year D44's were in the trucks only on the GMC's. Chevy's last year of D44's were somewhere between '77 to '79. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Go here and decide for yourself. Has he seen it, or just speculation? You have to look at the axle to know, as lots of 4X4 guys are notorious for swapping in different things.

Yep, the stock front axle in an '88 3/4 ton 4X4 would be the 10 bolt. Dana 44's disappeared in about 77-79 or so. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

you know, I heard the 10 Bolts were stronger front axles than the Dana 44s.

maybe the 3/4 ton 10 bolts, I have noticed to get out of a pickle you can put 1/2 ton 10 bolt axles in, just keep the outer shaft, its like 3/4" shorter, and the hub is just able to grab the splines.

The d44 vs. 10b question has been rehashed on here a few times and the consensus seems to be that they are about the same strength wise. The only difference btw a 3/4 ton and a1/2 ton ten bolt is the backing plate, hubs and rotors.

77-79 were the change over years for 44 to 10 bolt fronts

and 77-82 on 12 to 10 bolt rears

The only problem w/ going there is the pic on that guide is of a 10B rear. The front 10B looks a little different. Basicly look at the pic of the D44, if it's not that it's the 10B.

yeah thats what made me think that it was a 44. And the sheer thought of a 10 bolt in my 3/4 /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
