Does anyone know for a fact what year GM changed the REAR 10 bolts to 30 spline. I know it was between 1986 and 1990. It seems when they did this, they moved the weak spot from the axleshaft to the carrier. The carriers are failing...the area of the carrier where the bearing is pressed on is shearing off and destroying the ring and pinions at the same time.

I'm pretty sure it was 89.

Thanks guys. I found in the LMC catalog that 1988 was a questionable year...depended on the ratio.
