Thats about the price for a 102" whip $10-20 is pretty common. Just use a 18' piece of coax, make sure its rg59 (most are).

How do you get the coax to stand up tall? It's like a wet noodle /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Why 18' of coax? If your trying to kinda-sorta measure the actual VSWR at the radio the coax should be 1/2 electrical wavelength long or multiple there of. You have to take into account the propagation delay of the dielectric in the coax (about .66-.68) so the cable should be around 12 feet. Actually the best place to measure for tuning is right at the antenna. Once tuned, you can run any length of coax you want and not have a problem /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

BTW, should be RG58 (50 Ohm) not RG59 (75 Ohm)

The 18 foot of coax is a mith. Just use how much you need.

You tune the antenna by making it longer or shorter. Not very easy to do with a 102" whip but you generally don't need to do anything to them.

I've installed several 102" whips and they have always been close enough to not need anything done. As long as you mount it right, you should be good to go.
