Truck 12 bolts are 8 7/8 ring gear. I think it's a little bigger than the car version. I really should know this because my 70 Pontiac LeMans has a 12 LOL. I know there was some difference but it wasn't huge.

The GM car 12-bolt is also 8-7/8" but its a different animal - nothing interchanges. They are about the same for strength.

if you want something to handle big horse power then go with a 14ff and convert it to a six lug disk brake setup /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

truck 12 bolt have alot smaller diameter of pinion gear stem than car 12 bolt

car and truck 12 bolt are both same ring gear diamete of 8.875 and they are nothing alike in appearance, parts will not interchange between these two designs, only thing they have in common is that they are built by american axle for GM use and are 12 bolt covers and are two pinion design
