Still looking for a 14B FF w/ 4.56's and not having a lot of luck. So I might end up redoing the 12B I have... but basically I bought the 12B w/ 4.10's in it. I have no idea if it is factory or not... but does anyone know how to identify which carrier is in it (3.40 and lower or 3.73 and higher) ? It is an open carrier and if I remember right it is out of a mid to late 70's pickup. TIA.

I'll try to help ya, if the ring gear was 1/3 " to far to the left or right could you notice it ?
That's what the carrier brake does it moves the mounting of the ring gear to the left or right !
If say you happen to have the 3.07:1-3.73:1 carrier and your ratio is 4.09-4.11:1 then you have
an extra thick ring gear, or possibly a spacer.
The extra thich ring gear will be about 1/3" thicker than a non-extra-thick ring gear.

Thanks for the help Ex... It doesn't look as thick as a ring gear on a smaller carrier would be. I know what you are saying. I just figured it would be good to check. Although it looks like if it was the smaller carrier I would be SOL cause they don't make it [IMG]

Motive makes both carriers for the 12 bolt.
