There is a 14 FF on ebay for sale. I doubt I'll bid on it but it struck me curious.. the dude said it's out from under a camper and the pumpkin is bigger than the standard 14 bolt axle. Do you think he's referring to a FF compared to a SF? Thats the only thing I can think of.

If you strickly count the bolts. There are 2 "14-bolts". (That I know of, but have been proven wrong before)

1- 14 bolt full floater; Big-pig, yery big. 10.5 ring gear. Pinoin nose is suported by a "neadle" type bearing that is a yery strong set up. Center casting useualy- but not allways- have allot of strengthining ribs bilt in, but the silouette would be about the same. Bolt on pinion bearing support. Full-floater. 2 diferent brake options 13" X 2.5" and 13" X 3" (I THINK)

2- 14-bolt semi-floater: Seams like it is a smaller center section (but I'm not sure) 9.5" ring gear. Standerd ring and pinion set (no bolt on pinion bearing suport, no 3rd bearing on the nose of the pinion). Bum cover uses sealent and not a gasket. Not a full floater. Can be a 6 or 8 lug. Big, big shafts. Can be found on 1/2 tons (Newer models, w/some kind of tow package, very rare, I've only seen one on a 1/2 ton), The bum cover looks yery different than it's bigger brother.

By the way. 14-bolt is a slang term. Parts guys that know numbers, know the difference between a 9.5" gear and a 10.5" gear. But SOME of them do not know or care what a 14 bolt is. It's all about P/N (part numbers) not bolts.

Don't know what axle that guy has for sale, but there is a bigger 14 bolt. My 2001 2500HD has the new 11.5" 14 bolt full floater. This is obviously not what he has for sale, but it does exist (MY2001 only).
