I've heard of 1 other 14bff front axle before, and I believe it was a custom job too. if I were creative enough, or had the mad welding skillz, I'd have a 14 bolt front too... but alas, I have not enough of either, so no 14bolt for me...

I'm pretty sure that Grim made that offer for a 12-bolt front axle, not a 14-bolt. [IMG]

I saw on another site someone custom builds these 14FF front axles. Check out Wagoner Machine to inspect their custom axle. [IMG]

here is the reply i got back from jakester:

Hi, Jakester here
What you are looking at is the first of the 14 bolt frontends and a
long line of HD open knuckle frontends soon to be announced in Peterson's
Offroad. I own BIG BOGGIN OFFROAD FABRICATION in Scarborough, Maine and
build some of the HD axles and other acc.
And Yes! it is a hybrid 14 bolt. Post it but give me the link direct. Let
people know that Jakester Merry from BIG BOGGIN OFFROAD is on his way to
the big rock to have some fun.

interesting......rob

Sounds like someone is a little too confident here, huh? [IMG]

I viewed the Wagoner Machine Shop page something like 6 months ago, so Jakester cannot take claim for the "first" 14FF front axle. [IMG]

Also, notice the caliper mounting plates are mounted backwards.

The way they are mounted, the calipers are facing the forward part of the axle.

Whats up with that?

Why would anyone want such a thing? The center section (carrier/ring/pinion/housing) is usually not the weak point in a D60 anyway so why would anyone want a heavier, lower clearance front axle that is limited to 5.13 gears? As far as I know, the strongest axles/knuckles/joints that would likely be used in there would be from a D60 anyway; and that is typically the weak point in a D60 to start with. At least the nit with the D80 front axle has low gears to choose from even if he did add 100 lbs and loose an inch (or more) clearance for no real affect.

IMHO, those C14 fronts are no better than 44s on 10 bolts at the mall. Rather than add anything to the trucks ability to perform, they actually cause new problems and reduce capability at the same time they drain your wallet.

Am I missing something critical here?

To make a long explaination short......those who have the 14FF front axles are the ones who have nothing better to spend their money on. [IMG]

Take a look at the springs on that "project". Those are some 'mega-lift' springs and that means one thing.....DISCO truck!! [IMG]

But for me, I will pick and stand by a D60 front any day, any time!! [IMG]

OH KNOW!!!!!
I have met this guy and hes just a bonehead who is running around claiming to be some famous axle builder.About a year and a half ago he bought a bent D-60 front from me that was stripped except for the gears for a hundred bucks, well maybe it was $92 so he would have enough gas money to get back home. He said that he going to build 14bolt front axles using D-60 stuff, when I asked how he was going to do this and that he didnt have a clue.
There is a Big Boogin Offroad but they are a mud running club that I met this summer, there a bunch of nice guys who know this Jake and told me hes FOS and said he stole there club name and had business cards made up and everything. From what I understand he hasnt even built one yet and it wouldnt surprise me if that photo was just a bent 60 with Ford caliper mounts and a glued on 14bolt cover!

I wouldnt be putting a down payment on one of those 14bolt fronts if you know what I mean!!!

I met the owner of Waggoner Machine in Disney a while back. We wheel with one of their good friends - Steve Sharp. I have seen this 14 bolt front axle. Its basically a 14 bolt center section, carrier, gears and stuff, with Dana 60 outers and custom inner axleshafts. It looked killer, but seems like alot of work just to have a 14 up front. You could buy 3 Dana 60s for the cost of building this axle.

Very, very true!! [IMG]

I would, as a matter of fact, rather have the D60's any day over a 14FF front axle!! [IMG]

Just think if you sold a truck to someone that had this "rare" front axle and the new owner knew nothing about it, and he went to get parts for it at the local Pep Girls!!! [IMG] [IMG]

Oh man! That makes me cry from laughing so hard to even think about that person!!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
