If I have a 14 bolt with 4.10 gears and open diff, but want to switch to 5.13 gears and locker what would I need. Do I need the thicker gears?

Yup just did this a month ago, you'll need the thick gears.

Does it work the same way on the D60? I noticed Randy's Ring and Pinion only offers the 5.13s for a D60 in the thick gear, so would I need a D60 with a 4.10 carrier?

    You are confusing me.
On the 14 bolt with 4.10s. If you want 5.13s but don't want the hassle of finding a 4.56 and up case, then buy thick gears and that's it. The detroit will fit right in the open case.
On the D60, if you have 4.10s and want 5.13s you will need to buy both a 4.56 and up case AND the 5.13 gears. I have not seen thick gears for a D60. Some people have said they have heard of them, but I have never seen proof.

They are listed as thick gears on Randy's Ring and pinions website. I'll get a link in a few.

Cross Dana60 with 5.13, according to their legend they are thick gears.

    5.13 thick gear
