    Easy question:

OK, Everyone.....TRustyK5 has belped alot with my questions about changing to a 14 Bolt rear. I just researched an exploded view of a 14 Bolt and it appears be be much simplier than my limited slip 10 bolt. The exploded view does not show any spider gears. The only internal mechanisms appear to be the ring and pinion gears....am I missing anything? Is that what the inside of a full float 14 bolt contains? If so....than all I need to rebuild/replace is the ring and pinion gears so I can change it to 4.10 ratio and the bearings & seals. Is that all there is to it...seems too simple, there has to be more. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks...

....and ....if anyone has pictures of the inside of a 14 bolt I would love to see them!

    Chris

Don't have any pictures handy, but if it's an open diff, then it has 4 spider gears. If it's a Gov-Loc, then it has 3 spider gears. They are pretty easy to work on. Installing a Detroit Locker in one is a piece of cake. [IMG]

    Thanks Harry:

The exploded view I have just does not show any spider gears (also called side gears according to GM). I am looking at a Full Float 10 1/2 14 Bolt Axle. On the FF, does power go to both wheels at all times? IK am just trying to prep myself for what I have to do.

here is an option for you. don't mess with rebuilding the 14 bolt, keep it for parts. Call me up and for $775 plus shipping I will send you a brand spankin new in the crate ff 14 bolt with 4.56 gears. What do you think?

IT'S A 1 TON THING.... IF I HAVE TO EXPLAIN IT, YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND!!!

Actually, there are side gears in addition to the spider gears. [IMG] The spider gears provide differential action while the side gears actually provide drive to the axle shafts.
