14 bolt SF and 15\" wheel

I'm looking into the 14bolt SF due to the fact it's 6 lug and I don't want to get new wheels seeing how I just got my new ones. Will a 15" wheel fit on the 14 bolt SF? Do ya'll know where I can get a 14 bolt SF?

Most 14sf are 8 lug and had 16" wheels.
Like my 82 3/4 4x4 8600GVW burb it has a 14 bolt sf but it is 8 lug 16 inch wheels.

But I know they make the SF in a 6 lug. Hate to say it, but I'm starting to think about rebuilding the 10 bolt [IMG].
How bad would it be? I have the 30 spline axle and if I added a detroit or something to that effect it would beef it up wouldn't it? I'd still go to the 14 bolt later, just right now it isn't looking too good.

Re: 14 bolt SF and 15\" wheel

Well, I think the size of the drums for a 14 SF and 14FF are similar, right? In any case, before my friend did a rear disk conversion on his 14FF, he had 15x10 whitespokes that fit over the drums. I don't think the issue of 6 and 8 lug should matter. In any case, I believe that 15s should work. Just don't expect to fit any peices of paper between the drum and the rim.. it's quite a tight fit. Hope I could help.

Re: 14 bolt SF and 15\" wheel

The drums on the 14 bolt ff are huge and there doesn't seem to be any trouble fitting 15" wheels on those, so I don't think there would be any problem fitting the 15s on the sf 14.
Yes, they did make a 6 lug sf 14 bolt but they were only available on the newer style trucks with IFS, so you will probably have to move the shock mounts and spring perches to make it work.

Re: 14 bolt SF and 15\" wheel

I had one of the local junkyards search around for a 14SF 6 lug, and they found one. $850, I don't think so. But the guy told me they just got a '77 1 ton in, and it has a 14 bolt I'm sure it's an 8 lug, but they only want $250 for it, and it has 4.11 gears. So I told him I'd probably go with it, and the saved money will let me buy some 15x10 8 lug wheels. I just hope it's in decent shape.

You see how the K5 Gods work now? Everything leads to a 14 bolt, you can't avoid it so embrace it! [IMG]
At least you won't ever have to upgrade that part of your truck again. Good luck with it.

Re: 14 bolt SF and 15\" wheel

I've got a S/F 14 in my 88. The donor was a 93 3/4 ton Xtd cab Chevy p/u. The rearend is 1/2 narrower then the front, has 6lug wheels, and 15" wheels came stock on it. The same wheels will fit off my stock 10bolt on the new rearend, the spring perches and shock mounts had to be ground off and rewleded. The U-joint had to be changed to a u-joint with 1310 on one cross and 1330 on the other cross. In other words, the rearend uses a larger u-joint then the 10blt. But I just bought a special U-joint to take care of it.

If you have any questions, let me know. I've also got a TSM conversion on it.

What about those wheel adapter/spacers the reviewd on this site? Will they allow you to use 6 lug wheels on a 8 lug axle?

They don't make the adapter to go between 8 lug and 6.

So Corey, the axle is 1/2" narrower than the front on each side? Have any pics? It sounds cool.

Just curious, you said that 15" wheels came stock on the donor truck. Was it 4wd or 2wd? I haven't seen a factory Chevy 4x4 with stock 15" wheels since then went with IFS. I also thought all of the 2wd 3/4 tons also had 16" wheels as stock.
