I am installing a detroit locker in my 14 Bolt. When I tore the rear apart last night I discovered that I had a Gov-Lock. Does anyone have a open carrier they want to get rid of or trade? I have 4.56 gears
    Thanks

I don't think you'll find anyone to trade you for a Gov-Loc carrier....

Worst case scenario, you can buy a new carrier outright for something like $160. I think places like 4WPW even carry them.....or was it Randy's R&P?

Junkyards might work, but you're not likely to find many 4.56 geared 14 bolts out there!!! Any chance you're using the "thick" gear 4.56, so you only need to find a 4.10 and smaller carrier?

    No.....

I just know that if you use the 4.10 and down carrier, the ring gear has to be thicker to make up for the fact that the pinion is getting smaller and smaller on the 4.56 and up gears.

One of the gear suppliers might be able to describe a way to meausure and verify which one you have.....maybe call Randy's Ring & Pinion? They've always been nice to me when I've called..... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

What gears are in it now???? If they are 4.10 or lower, the thick gear will be NOTICEABLY THICKER....otherwise, they will appear similar.

And what he said about that phone call as a backup....since I never fully trust someone over a phone....
