hey im setting up my rear end after putting all new bearings in my 14 ff. how do you check the carrige bearing preload.also what are the torque spec on the carrige caps and pinion nut. i also need to know the the range of backlash that is allowable for a used set of gears. I know that new and used gears are different.

I'm so tired tonight, that I can't even type all this method. [IMG] [IMG]

Ok, do a search. This topic has been covered quite a bunch of times.

I know this method by heart. I just can't even bring myself to type the whole thing out. [IMG]

<font color=blue>When you say carriage bearings, you're talking about the ones on the pinion right? I dont know the spec but I know preload is measured with an inch/lb torque wrench. I think the backlash for new gears is .005-.008", I never heard of different backlash for used gears but I guess it makes sence.
