14b ff stock gearing

Discussion in 'The Garage' started by **DONOTDELETE**, Oct 10, 2002.

I have a 14 B FF in my truck and need to know the stock gearing in it. Please help, I was told by the guy I bought the truck from the 14 B FF was stock.
    Thankyou for the help.

there was prob around 4 choices for the 14bff...check the diff for id tags, pull the cover and count teeth or just turn the wheels and count the ratio of the drive shaft turning.

    "Stock gearing" can be 3.42, 3.73, 4.10, or 4.56.

The only surefire way to find out exactly what you have is to pop the dif cover off and count the teeth on the ring and pinion.
Or, look for some numbers stamped on the ring gear and divide them to get the ratio.

You can add 3.21 and 5.13 to that list. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'll second the 3.21 with a matching 3.23 in the front.

the most common gear i am told is 4.10's but as others have stated, you have to pop the top and count the teeth, or the number is stamped on the gears.

Up here the most common ratio for the FF 14 is 3.73...must be a Canadian thing /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

My buddy spent the last 3 months checking every set of 3/4 ton diff's advertised locally and the 3.73 sets were by far the most common.

im in PA and the only ratio ive seen here at the jumkyards are 4.10 gears.like everyone said the easiest way is to pop the diff cover and turn the diff till you see the stamp on the ring gear.4.10 will have 41 10 stamped.3.73 will have 41 11 stamped on the ring gear.im pretty sure those were the most common.

    Re: 5.13's....
Not in a SRW anyways - only in a 1-ton DRW (cab & chassis) with a 292 straight six. Fat chance in any other configuration.

My old man has 3.21's in his '79 C20 crewcab. Despite the tall gearing, its never gone past 100km/h. (The eleven-foot camper won't let it!) /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif
