This is going to sound like a dumb question, I just got a 14BFF for my truck yesterday. How can I tell by looking the carrier if it is posi or not ? I am farmiliar with 10 & 12 bolts but this is my first 14 bolt and it looks very different. It is a 4:10 ratio, & when I look at the carrier itself it has 4 holes around between the carrier and the ring gear that look similar to what a 10 or 12 bolt cross pin looks like. Also the spider gears are hard to see, the only place they can be seen is thru holes that are in the carrier.

Can someone please shed some light on this for me ?

    Thanks for your help.

From the way you described it, that is an open carrier. No posi.

Sounds like an open carrier to me too.

Do you have a digital camera? Post a pic of the carrier.

No I don't have access to a digital camera, I am going to look at it again tonight, I don't really use the truck on the road so if it is an open carrier I am going to weld the spider gears.
    Thanks for your help.

    4 pin = Open
    3 pin = Gov-Lock

You have 4 pins so you have a open diff which is what you want if you want to put in a Detroit.
