Phew! Thanks Wes... just got back from Napa where I had new carrier bearings pressed on - cost =$81. Now I can go out and sit in the 5" snow, and the rain that is falling right now to re-attempt the install. Any quick pointers?

    1. Install the pinion
    2. Install the carrier
    3. Set backlash, checking for pinion depth at the same time.
    4. I'm still missing something...

Hope you saved the shim for the pinion carrier support housing. You need to reuse that.

If you have never messed with this shim and carrier support, other than take it out and reinstall it, you will be just fine with the same stock shim. That shim is what sets the pinion depth. If all is ok so far, don't worry anymore about the pinion depth as the shim already set it. [IMG]

I need to know if you replaced the bearings in the pinion carrier support besides the ring gear carrier? If you did, let me know. I want to know if you did the installation and checking for the pre-load properly.

Install the ring gear and carrier. Torque to the 135 ft. lbs. spec. Don't worry about the adjusting sleeve lock wires yet. Set the back lash on that between .005" to .008". Minimum .003" and maximum .012".

Once that is set, check the pattern.
