spring perches and shock mounts may need to be relocated, you may or may not need a trick u-joint, other than that you oughta be set... assuming the gears match your front axle.

I don't think the gears match so will have to set up new gears in them but got the axle for a steal. I thought of my second question....

what is the difference between the axle I got and say one out of a 1 ton truck....Jason

AFAIK, there is no difference... they might use different size pinion yokes or something... not sure.

Was it the stock axle from the '85 sub -- if so, it will bolt right up (except the u-joint), but I thought they were all semi floaters during that era?

as far as I know it was the stock axle from that burb, I could be wrong though. I looked stock the way it was in the truck I know cause I pulled it out... It was a 2wd burb if that helps or does that even make a difference....Jason

2wd and 4wd are somewhat the same. the only difference will be the lower shock mounts on the 2wd.

your 14ff should bolt right in without having to relocate the perches. i hope that you grabed the spring plates from the burb if not you will need those too.

    oh and new u-bolts..

3/4 ton 14bff is a direct bolt in, its the one tons that need the spring perches moved..

so basically was the burb 2wd or 4wd? if it was 2wd yeah some echobit shock mount, cut the olds off, weld the news on. If it was 4x4 slap that axle under your K5 its a direct bolt in(except the u joint issue).

I find it hard to believe this rear is a FF coming out of an '85 truck since the majority of these years used SF rather than FF's.

Stupid question, but are you sure its a FF? Does it have a large hub protruding past the lug nuts? Is there a 6 bolt removable pinion support housing? Just curious as a FF in a mid-80's is almost impossible, if not very rare. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I am very sure that is is a full floater. It has the protruding hubs and the bolts holding the pinion support. It looks just like the one in my buddys 1 ton navy truck only thing is this one has smaller disk breaks....Jason

Thats pretty rare to see a FF in any mid-80's truck under a K30 rating. Lucky to get that in there. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
