I am finishing up my 14bFF. What do you guys use to seal the shafts to the hub? When I pulled mine, they had some thick white sealant looking stuff. I would use RTV, but while the axleshaft surface is pretty smooth, the hub surface is pretty roughed up. I question if regular RTV will form a thick enough seal.

There is a specific gasket for it but I use RTV. I sandblasted the hubs clean and smooth then painted them before I overhauled the axle.

There is a thin metal gasket that goes between the flange and the hub, so i use that metal gasket and black RTV. No leaks, the sealant does a pretty good job of getting into the little cracks and sealing out the gear lube.

Here's another vote for RTV. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Permatex Form-A-Gasket will also seal it up. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I think permatex was what was on it. It reminded me of the permatex sealeant I put on my head bolts.

Permatex makes some awesome stuff. I keep a tube of their #2 sealer and a small tub of their Aviation sealer in the garage at all times. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
