    15\" vs. 16\" Rims

I'm gathering parts for my winter buildup of my '96 GMC. Right now I am currently looking for rims and tires. The tires are going to be around 38"-40". I know the 16.5" rims have no safety bead and I like to air down my tires. When I go to the dunes I take my 35's on 15" rims down to 4-6 psi with no problem. Now is it worth the effort to fit 15" rims over a Dana 60 front and a 14FF with discs?? Should I just buy 16" rims and call it good? I am looking at Weld rims and I read if you use an aluminum rim you have to grind too much off the calipers when using a 15" rim. What do you think I should do??

I'd go with 15" wheels and grind the calipers. For one thing tires are cheaper and less worries about running one of the rim. Just my .02

Tire selection with 16 inch rims is VERY limited. So pick the tire you want, then see which rim size it's available for. That should help you make the decision. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I looked at alot of tires and rims, and finally decided to use 15s. I just couldn't find the combos in 16s that I wanted at prices I could justifie.

<font color="blue">You can't get aluminum 15" 8 lug wheels. Aluminum is thicker than steel so theres not as much room inside the wheel to fit the brakes

Great article baddog /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif I manage an autoglass shop and have been thinking of putting together a tech article about window guide and motor replacement. I just haven't had the time maybe I'll get to it this winter.

Thanks baddog. I read that article a while ago and haven't been able to find it again.
