Ok I know the trim levels for the GMC's. Check out www.edmunds.com for some more info. All of the 96 and later trucks have the Vortec engines. Very good engines, lots of power. Only problems I have seen with these engines are the leaky intakes. The 1/2 ton trucks will come with the 4L60-E, good tranny but has a few quirks. The 3/4 and 1 ton trucks come with the 4L80-E, basically a TH400 with Overdrive.

    Trim levels

    GMC
SL-Base, dont expect many creature comforts.
SLE-Same as SLT but without leather seats. Pretty freakin nice trucks if you ask me.
SLT-All the creature comforts, also has leather seats.

    Chevy
Base-? I dont know if they had a designation or not
LS-If I remember correctly this is the equivilant of an SLE GMC
    LT-Equivilant of an SLT GMC.

Steve....my buddy's '96 Chevy K200 Burb is an LT. It is loaded with everything....Vortec 454, 4L80E, 14BFF, 3:73's, CD, Leather, etc etc. Very nice rigs....I keep begging him to sell it to me but he won't budge. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

    Wrong on part of that
SLE to SLT and LS to LT have differences other than leather seats.

the SLE and LS will have the driver's side power seat- but not the passenger- with an SLT or an LT both will be power...with the SLT or the LT they will also be heated. The other difference is usually the rim/wheel combo. the SLT and LT options have the nicer aluminum rims...and possibly the bigger 265 tires.

I've also found that the majority of SLT or LT suburbans around here...(remember I had one, and also was ready to buy another one recently) have the skid plates, where the SLE and the LS do not. this could just be a coincidence..but I dont think so.

I also do not believe you'd find a 454 in the SLE or the LS trim package...if someones gonna opt for the 454 $$$ they're gonna get the SLT or LT trim as well.

Leathers cool- but short shorts, and leather seats do NOT work well together! I mean, my kids car seats make marks in leather...
