I am Currently at Fort Benning GA competing in the rifle and pistol championships. It is kinda cool knowing that I can take a regular issue M16 and knock down a torso sized sillouhette at 500 meters. Those 300 meter targets are like nothing now. I placed 38th in the Excellence in Competition match and think I might be awarded the Distinguished Rifleman Badge(awarded to top 15% in the EIC that do not already have this). THis is a permanent award the replace\s the standard marksmanship badges. I don't know how well I am going to do with the pistol since I only learned how to shoot one 3 weeks ago. I am also amazed at the difference between the GA Offroad scene versus the SC off road scene. There isn't much in SC, but GA has some good looking well used trucks all over the place. Well, wish me luck and I'll post up later on the results.

That's impressive!!!
Need a photo of your DRB award when ya get it! And your ribbon!

I got the expert marksmanship ribbon in the USAF, but they only let ya touch a M-16 every two years (when I was in). :p:

you have joined the high order of the black rifle....many congrats

now 1000 yds with the 223... that takes real long rifle skill..more so than the 308

are you using a glove? shooting jacket? blackout eyepiece?

or is the shoot combat ready

hack ya at 1000yrds a 10mph cross wind will blow a .223 17 feet off course
also at 500 yrds a .223 only has 475ft lbs of energy
so it is nice to hit somthing that far, but it aint gonna do much as far as stopping power goes

    trust me... i know... :wink1:

for the past 5 out of 6 years i qualified 10 for 10 at the 500. the one year i didnt get all 10 i got 8. not too bad. i cant hit crap at 300 yards though, but 200 yards im 75%.

i agree, the 223 sucks and we should go back to 7.62mm... just me though.

Good luck with the pistol. SC does suck for offroading unless you have private property.

seventy4 no we don't have to qualify at 500. 50-300 and most don't even try at 300. THey save the rounds for other targets they can't hit.

I found out this morning I am on the list to join the summer pick up program offered by the Army MArksmanship unit to join them from april through august to learn, train and compete with them. I am going to warrant officer school and flight school though so I can't go.

GotLabs: I needed more than luck for the pistol. Skill would be the word. I am lacking in the experience needed to gain the skill in the pistol area and shot like ca ca. Two more copmpetitions with the pistol tomorrow so we will see how that goes.

    308 and the .50

338 lapooooie.. sometimes when my friends buy the rounds

and yes... I have some one off .22 cal lr practice guns...including an ar... that cost as much to build as my love... my baby.. my 308...
    "smokestick"...

the optics cost more than the gun
and as you age it seems they exponentially get more expensive

I know now why I like shotgun more and more...

now..if I could just get them to shoot long range
