203 to 205 swap

    i just bought a 79 k5. it has a 400 turbo 350 203 combo. i have a 205 transfer that i want to swap in this truck. what will be involved in this swap. what parts will i need?

    adapter, possibly output from tranny, reworked front and rear shafts. the first two all depend on what the 205 came off of.

    i think the 205 came from behind a 350 trans. not positive

    if it came from any else but a TH400, then you need the first 2 idea mentioned

    So does it have the th400 or th350, your post is kinda confusing. If it's a 350, and the 205 is for sure from a 350, then you will need the adapter, drive sleeve and shifter. If it's a 400 transmission, and the 205 is from a 350, you will need to change out the input shaft on the t-case. You will need to have the case machined for the bigger bearing if you do this. You will also need the adapter, and possibly change the output on the th400.

    Either way, the front shaft will need to be shortened and the rear will need to be lengthened.

    Is the 203 broken? If not, then I wouldn't even bother with the swap. 203's are VERY strong t-cases and have basically the same low range as a 205. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
