Where i live there is a older man I meet with 3/4 axles out os a sub. The town is making him clean out. He wants 250 for the pair. With what little I know it is a 14sf in the rear and a 8 lug ten bolt in the front. Is it worth it and what else would need to be done to it to put into my k5? How can I tell what gears are in there? I was looking for 1 ton, but that is a lot more then I thought it would be. Any help would be appreciated. thanks Mike

Pull the cover off both the front and rear. You'll have a chance to inspect what you might be buying and the gear ratio is stamped on the edge of the ring gear. It will also be a good time to make sure the ratio's match.

    Common ratios...41:11, which is 3.73
    41:10 which is 4.10. 41:9 is 4.56
    41:12 which is 3.42

The larger number is the number of teeth on the ring gear, the smaller number is the number of teeth on the pinion gear.

trustyk5 thanks for the info. Is it a good price and is a 14sf good for 36" tiers and what about the ten bolt? Mike
