A guy I work with just told me he had an old 3/4 ton chevy frame with axles he would let me have for nothing if I got it out of his yard. What type axles came on the 3/4 tons, probably late 70's or early 80's model? The body is gone and he doesn't know what year it was.

All the 73 and up 3/4 tons had 14 bolt ff's in the rear. It could either have a dana 44 or a 10 bolt. You can identify them by the cover shape. The 44 looks kinda egg shaped. The 10 bolt has little ears on the bottom and is rounder. Could be a good deal depending on what shape the axles are in

Will the front axle be any better than the stock Dana 44 I have now?

front axle won't be better but the 14 ff has 8 lugs and it will have matching bolt patterns

the only difference is the lug pattern and rotor size

  7. If its a 10 bolt up front it will be the 8.5" ring gear and then you can always go with chrome molly shafts and spicer joints to get the strength you are probably looking for. I have ran a 10 bolt out of a 3/4 ton truck in my Burb for 4 years now and have had not one problem.

Heck yeah, It's a great deal, imperative word here is FREE. I learned alot about that word in college. FREE means go and get it, you can always sell it later. Around here, you could probably get $50 at the scrap yard or $300 in the classifieds [IMG]!

Is a 10 bolt considered a 3/4 ton axle? I have heard from other posts here that they are weak. Fill me in...
