    3:40\'s in a 14blt ff

man, i got this pig home today and when i recounted the r/p it has 340's in it....make sure i did this right--the ring has 41 gears and the pinion has 12...i checked and rechecked...i never would have thought that a 14 bolt would have such high gears!! any way, its in excellent condition, so im going to re-gear and keep it....kiinda sucks though

Yep. GM would call that a 3.42 ratio. Bummer...

Most ring gears have the number of teeth for the ring and pinion stamped in the edge of them somewhere. Look for a number on the ring gear like 41:12. [IMG]

I happen to have a set of 3.73s in excellent shape I would be
willing to swap you. We could each pay our own shipping. Let me know what you think. Brian

    Hey yeild2me,
From what year and type of vehicle did you pull your 14bolt
with 3.42s? Was it a 1 ton van? I was under the impression that only 3.73, 4.10 & 4.56 were available in the K20/K30s.

it was on a mid to late 70's 3/4 ton 2wd pick up...i think it had a big block (engine was gone but i was snooping in the cab and saw a reciept for big block parts), 4 speed which was gone, i also believe it had a/c...i cant remember for sure...the 14 bolt does have a limited slip in it....man i counted those teeth and about choked....oh well, like i said, its in real good shape so i am going to re-gear it.

BTW-i took this out by myself w/o using a torch, and completely undid every bolt, and it only took me about an hour...this includes jacking it up, removing tires, putting old rims underneath it, AND un-bolting it, and dragging it out....am i saying i am just that good? no, i am saying that this may have been changed a while back, for being approx 25 years old, it was pretty easy to unbolt.....
