My 69 came equiped with a Rockwell transfer case and a three on the tree - I just changed to a 4 speed. Not back on the road yet though. Don't know about a three on the tree and NP205 combo.

The three speed is a good tranny in a base model 2WD , but in my opinion it had NO PLACE in a 4WD ! The ratios were not deep enough .
I think that they shared the coarse 10 spline , so the 205 might work if you get the correct adapter .
