Got a bunch of stuff fixed up Wednesday (vaccum lines, choke rebuilt, fuel lines, dustributor cap and rotor). Ran fine for a day. This morning, tried to take it out duck hunting and found a new problem. It ran perfect for about 2 minutes, then it started bogging like crazy. It sounded like it was running on 2 cylinders, and black smoke was coming out of the exhaust. Then after a couple of minutes of that, it would go right back to regular, running just fine for probly 30 seconds, then back to the 2 cylinder chugging. Anybody got an idea? The mechanic said that the carb needed a rebuild, so could that be the problem? But why would it only start doing that AFTER everything else was fixed?

BTW I finally got a pic taken of my truck w/the SX's on...no lift.

Take it back to him!!! The choke is sticking closed when it should open causing it to load up , i.e. the black smoke. Probly feels like a H /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifarley rough as hell

Yep, Its the choke. Sounds like it might not even be hooked back up right. Just flopping around maybe.

    Choke.

My K30 does that every now and then. Needs to idle longer and get warmed up properly before just taking off and drive.

Wouldn't headers eliminate the choke thats right behind the manifold? I need some of those anyways. They said the choke was in bad shape, and they rebuilt it the best they could. I'm still gonna take it back to them and let 'em look at it.

Usually you have a choke pull off which has an adjustment too.Your mechanic may have to re-adjust it to where the opening is a little wider. They can be finicky to deal with.
/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif one other thing is to check the choke pull off with a vacuum pump to see if it is holding vacuum.

I second that idea, wire it open, be alittle more pain to get warmed up but should run better over all. Good Luck /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

What exactly do you wire open to fix it? I need to get it out to K5Jimmy's house to fix it...right now it will barely crawl...
