32 spline 465 question *hasn\'t been answered yet!*

If I have a 32 spline 465, without the 205 behind it, and I want to put a 208 behind it, all I have to have is the adapter and the t-case itself right?

Or I might just put a 32 spline 205 back behind it. It's just all a matter of finding one.

Now for my gear ratio question. Will 4.10's in the 3/4 ton axles, the 465, and 33" tires on my K5 be too much for a tow rig, or would I be better off with 3.73's? Think my gas mileage will be worth a flip? It has a TBI 350 in it.

I will bump this to the top because I have a similar question. I am buying a 32 spline SM-465 that used to have a 208 behind it and need to know what I need to put a 32 spline 205 on instead? Do the NP208 and 32 spline NP205 use the same adapter?

Im not sure if you would need 4.10's with the granny gear in the SM465 with only 33's.

but if I was going to keep the 700 in it, it would be fine with 4.10's....great, i have to find ANOTHER 14b with 3.73's and i just sold one a month ago with them in it.

Why? Do you drive 85-90 mph all the time? When I had my '77K20 it came with 4.10s and 29" tall tires. I switched to 33" and it was fine. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

even for towing with 4.10 and 33's and tbi your MPG would suck.
go 4.10 and 35's and 3.73 and 33's. would could easily go 35's and 3.73's the granny gear in the 465 is so low you can tow a house it seems like.
i will be running 4.10 and 42's on the trail, with a doubler, and a 465. around town 37's tires. but i could easily run 42's and just start out in the granny gear.

I don't know if these will help, but I got some formulas for figuring out RPM and MPH with what tires and G.Ratio you have:

    RPM X Tire Diameter
    --------------------- = MPH
    Gear Ratio X 336

    MPH X Gear Ratio X 336
    ------------------------ = RPM
    Tire Diameter

I hope this helps in the selection... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I've got 33's, 4:10's and a SM465 and its a little low geared for DD use, espcially with a big block. If it was a tow rig though I'd consider it ideal, because you really shouldn't go 80 with a honking trailer anyway.
For a small block doing towing duty I'd definitly go with the 4:10s and 33's.

the 32 spline 465 was made to be a direct swap with the same year 208 205,
hence the ridiculous long output shaft

thanks m j. are the pictures under your CK5 username, or is it "ausername11"? i checked your profile, but there isn't a link to them.

I thought at one time it was the same thing, but I wasn't 100% on it.

Re: 32 spline 465 question *hasn\'t been answered yet!*

M_J hit the nail on the head about the 205 and 208 being the only t-cases available to mate to the 32 spline 465 tranny.

The 32 spline in the 465 began in '81 with the 208 mated to it on the K5, 10 and 20 vehicles.

The 205 didn't mate to the 32 spline 465 until '85 since the '84 and older K30's still ran the 10 spline outputs.

In order for you to use a 205 in your 465, you need to find any 205 from an '85 up to '91 K or V30. You will need to locate the proper adaptor, too. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Thanks bud. That's what I was looking for.

The dude is letting me get the bellhousing, flywheel, clutch, pedals, shifter, 205 adapter, transmission, manual steering column, and whatever else I want for $300 so I'm jumping all over this deal to go in my 87 K5. All of this is from his 91 K30, so it's all HYDRO! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
