YES I DID A SEARCH! Several, in fact. Too much broad info on the 350 in general. I have the GM Performance 330hp 350 in my 72 K-5. Problem is, all the torque comes in around 4500RPM. At 1500-2000 (on a steep, rocky hill,) I might be lucky to see 200ft-lbs. That ain't enough for 6500 pounds of metal!!! The question is this: Is there a way to max out the torque from this block and get where I want the low-end at, or would I be better off buying a new motor? The current block only has about 12,000 miles on it. I think I'd be able to sell it for a decent price. Someday, It'll be 502 time, but right now I can't afford it. Anybody know the answers?

You can try playing with cam degree.
Thats a good motor, probably need more of a RV cam that puts torque down in the low RPM range and not where it is now, set for mid to high RPM range.

i know that for the ZZ4 block you get the 385 fast burn heads and swap those on for 30 more hp but idk if it adds 30 more Torque also. I was looking at that cuz i have the ZZ4 Ho 355hp 400tq in my street truck. I want more power from it im looking for 400-500hp. Anyone know anything bout the Hot cam b/c i was told it in the ZZ4 will make over 400 hp? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif its only a little different from the cam in there now.

The 330HP version should have the Vortec heads which are pretty good heads. You need to be careful with the HP numbers. These are HP readings usually around 5000+ RPM with max torque in the 3500-4500RPM region.

Torque is what moves a heavy vehicle, not HP...HP keeps the vehicle there once torque moves. If your looking for 400-500HP for running around you need to look at a Big Block installation. You also might look into a 383 Stroker, that should help out on the bottom end also /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

That engine was designed for weekend drag racers, not rock crawling. Swapping in the correct (milder) cam will get you a lot more torque down low, but will cost you some HP on the top end. Give the tech line at Comp Cams a call and tell them what you want the engine to do. They can recommend the right cam for you. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif In a single weekend you can make it drive like a totally different truck. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

    ZZ4 HO 355hp @5200 and 405tq @3500
Yeah i was thinking of giving them a call anyways cuz the GM performance parts website cant answer my q's I mean damn all i wanted to know was about how the hot cam kit would do in the ZZ4. heres the specs ZZ4 HO roller cam specs Lift .474/.510 duration @50 208/221 That duration seems really small for such big lift and the hot cam is something close to this not real sure .525 lift and 230 duration that dont seem enough to give it over 400 hp ill ask some ppl i know tomarrow about it that will know but any ideas /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

In your profile, you are wishing for 4.88 gears. Are those in yet? Your answer might be right there......

Haven't put the gears in yet, because Gears only get you so far if you ain't got the torque to make it all run uphill like a raped ape.
