When the motor first came out it was only $2800 or so. Then it was a steal, and then GM realized they could get more $ for it so the raised the price. The motor itself sounds to be a good motor and is nice because it will have a warranty. Should be 1yr/12K. Not much, but better then nothing. Not to mention it is cheap for a strong 383. Should be a great motor for a K5.

I'd like to see a RamJet 383-HT. Love that FI set up, and would be perfect for a 383-HT !!!!!!!!! I think it'd be great as a stand alone system for pre computer controled trucks !!!!! [IMG]

I know that one of the mags like chevy highperformance took that engine, changed the cam to a gm "hot" cam with 1.6 roller rockers and lt4 springs and had close to 500 lbs torque so Id say its a great motor

If your interested in a Ram Jet/383 HT combo, look into Sunset Racing in Lubbock, TX. They offer a 383 HT with Edelbrock Multi-port fuel injection, Sunset's 383 has a bigger cam though. The bad thing is that the Ram Jet isn't street legal, but Sunset's is. Also the engine will run you a little over $4K Its the engine that I have and I love it /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

Also, Sunset Racing do all the research and development for Scoggins and Dickey and they practically designed the engine your looking at /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I also have pics of the engine on the stand and as it sits in the Jimmy now.

Looks good. I would really like to get a 383-HT. Only I'd want the RamJet FI on it. Don't know why I want the RamJet fuel injection so badly, I just do. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif That and some Doug Thorley TRI-Y headers would be everything I need !!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If your gonna spend that kinda money then you should get all the horses you can outta the motor right? Check out Jon Barret's motors website. His 383 will stomp that one in the ground...hehe. He's downtown OKC an he's very good. I know thats the motor imma get when i save up for the custom fuel injection for it. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

245 at .050 that cam is pretty big for a truck ,plus might be hard to sneak past the emission guys (unless you dont have the problem).

The HT 383 was making 415 ft lbs. @ 3500 rpm, Barrets made 480 lb/ft @ 5300 rpm. I'd like to see what the Barret engine was making at 3500rpm before I put it in a rock crawler over the HT 383, but it would make a good mud or sand truck engine as advertised.

I was thinking the same thing about the 13 in of Hg ... is that low enough that you'd need a vacuum reservoir if you were going to take that thing on trails with a carb?

Looks like a good Hot Rod engine, but not what I need in a 4X4. I want more torque in the lower rpm's. Now if you swaped out that cam for a Comp Cams X-tream 4X4 cam it'd probley be better for my app. 9.5 to 1 compression is cool, but I want to be able to gas up at any station. I love hot rods, but my K5 is mostly used for trails. I'm not a major rock crawler, but do some up on the trails here in the Black Hills. See pleanty of mud on the trails here also. I use my K5 for an all around on and off road vichile. I love to get way deep in the forest and go camping. Nothing better then finding some clearing along a mountin stream, and setting up camp. Being out where there are no other people around you can really enjoy nature. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Good luck trying to tame that engine into a rock crawler /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Hell with that kind of cam you lose the vaccum for your brakes. IMO, I think being able to stop is a lot better then being able to go. But I do agree that the engine would be good for mud bogs only.
