    4.11\'s with 33\'s Will I hate it?

I just scammed a killer deal on a 14bolt. I havent picked it up yet but I figure its got 4.11ish gears in it. Since I will be running new rims I will have to get new tires (33's probably) I figure the RPM difference to be about 700RPM at highway (I currently have 3.08) This truck is my driver not my wheeler, so I guess the magic question is how much am I going to hate the gain in RPM's(and loss in fuel economy) My budget is tight right now for this rig so even though I would like to regear to 3.73 this probably aint going to happen. Thanks

I've got 4.10's and 33's. Its fine. But I have overdrive. But I usually run somehwere close to 60 or 65 before I use it. You wont hate it I dont think

I think everyone on this board is too worried about running gears that would be too low. Man, I have 4.11's and 33's with NO overdrive and its fine. I can cruise on the highway just fine...the engine is right in its powerband...its fine.

I guess my hangup is my mileage... I currently get 17mpg After I FI it I was hoping to break 20. I realize there some give and take here but I dont want to be getting 13MPG. Anyone have a FI truck with 33's and 4.11's with mileage figured out? I had a K3500 with a turbo 400 always seemed like I needed another gear.

4.11s & 33s w/o O/D is a great combo for around town. Since you have O/D you will have the best of both worlds. If you have 3.08s & 33s now you will be amazed at the increase in power. Don't sweat it so much. All the gear ratios sound low, but that is because most people reference to cars. 4.11s are low when you are running a 28" tire. I am running 35s & 4.56s and I use it for a daily driver.

I just have 31's now. The 3.08's are WAY too steep for even those.

Cav if you are getting 17 mpg then you can afford to lose a few mpg LOL... hell I have a TBI w/ 31's and 3.08's and I'm lucky to see 11 point somethging when I calculate the milage.I'm going to 35's and 4.10's and I'm concerned I'm under geared... But overall, you are gonna probably lose milage... a 14B is a lot more weight to lug around... especially the drums... add bigger, heavier, and possibly widers tires.. along w/ more wind resistence... But hey at least your truck will seem like it has a lot more power [IMG]

Re: 4.11\'s with 33\'s Will I hate it?

I regeared in January from 3.08 to 4.10 in a 12-bolt rear and a 10-bolt front. The added power was unreal. The transfer case actually picked up a true lo range. The problem I had was the rpm's on the highway (1979 350SBC, TH350, NP203, 33" BFG MT's). I was turning 3200 RPM in "D" at 70 mph. Gas milage went to he!! in a hand basket. I started building a 700R4/NP205 combo to replace the TH350/NP203 in Feb and it will be finished tomorrow (pick the front drive shaft up and get it installed). The difference between the two is night and day. I have an aspirated engine that's a little more than stock and with the running I've done the past couple of days, the mileage is about 16 mpg high way compared to 9 mpg with the TH350. Prior to doing the gear change, I did a lot of research and the recommended ranges for gears on a 700R4 was from 3.73 (low end) to 4.56 (top end) with 4.10 being the optimal gears for 33" tires. Bottom line. do I hate it? No, best mod I've done so far. With 3.08 gears it seemed like I was trying to twist the TH350 in half when I took off. As I was building this 700R4, I did a lot of mods to it so it would handle the extra hp and torque for the engine I have.

Re: 4.11\'s with 33\'s Will I hate it?

I run 4:10's and 33's with a 700r in my 89 TBI....I just leave it in Drive for around town, and don't shift into OD until I'm gonna run 70 for a while.....as far as mileage, I have run it up to Colorado twice (1500M RT), Talledega (4 times 1400M RT), Bristol (1100M RT), Darlington (1800M RT), Richmond (2800M RT), plus several trips to Nashville, Kentucky Lake (LBL), Austin......anyways....I've put a lot of miles on it....before I lost Cruise Control, I could run 70 all days long and get in the 17mpg range (except in Colorado).....if I ran 80, it would drop to 14-15....since I broke a wire in the steering column, with no cruise, I run in the 15 neighborhood...I've got an open K&N filter, Headers, duals, and for the most part, this is with AT's...the MT's cost me about 1mpg.......I'm fixin' to leave Thursday Mornin' for Martinsville Speedway (near Roanoke, Va), which is another 2200M RT run.....I really don't think I would even notice the 200 or so rpm I would gain with 3:73's.....I believe the 4:10's are the way to go with 33's......just lettin' ya know what works for me....JD

I'm at 10th and Plum....10 miles from nowhere, and Plum out in the sticks....Stuck?...Hell no..I still got some gas left..

With 33's you will be good to go. You'll have better acceleration at low and high speeds, but your MPG will drop on the highways...

When I had my other truck (Toy), I went from 4.10 with 31's to 5.29 and 35's. MPG went down to 18 but was the best mod ever done. I put Detroits front and rear at the same time. I can't wait to put new gears and lockers in the Blazer.

I used to have 3.07 gears with 33's. I went to 3.73,and you can feel a difference while driving. I was looking to go with 4.11's but I was told I would use alot more gas. This is my daily driver..

Re: 4.11\'s with 33\'s Will I hate it?

Speaking of my advise for the 33"s and the 4.10's with BFG M/T's I was turning onto this side street on the way to work this morning after driving behind this little ol blue hair lady for like 10 miles, I was a little ill, so when I nailed the gas while coming out the turn the 33" Mud BFG's broke loose and spun the tires and I got the old girl a little squirlly on the street. LOL!!! I did this purely on accident, not to mention I didn't think it would do it. This quickly changed my mood. LOL!!!Im still grinning thinking about it.
