I currently run 3.73's with a Detroit in my 14 bolt.. Attached is a scan of the 14 bolt page in 4 wheel parts wholesalers, I circled in yellow a note that states the thick gears will work in the lower ratio carrier. So does that mean I wont have to change to the high ratio carrier if I want 4.56's?? Thanks....

I am putting 5.13 gears in my 14 bolt ff. according to randy's ring and pinion, reider racing, west coast differentials, the 3.73- 4.56 carrier is the same. I am using a 3.73 carrier. the 3.42 carrier is the one you can't use. I have never seen a 3.42 carrier!!!!

your right. I don't understand the jeep thing!

Well, this is what I heard. The carrier needs to be changed if you are going with a 4.11 and higher. A 4.10 and lower carrier will not work unless you get the thicker Ring. But they do sell the thicker ring and pinion set where you can use the lower geared carrier they sell it at http://www.macromotive.com they explaine the differences just shop for gear ratios for the 14ff

If you have a 3.73- 4.10 carrier you will need the thick cut
ring gear for your 14 bolt for it to work, unless you get a
4.56 and up carrier. Been there and done that. You will love
    the new gears. There bitchin!!
