    4.56\'s w/700-R4 and 35\" Boggers?

Will 4.56 gears work fine with the 700-R4 turning 16-35-15 Boggers? My Blazer just does not seem to have the get up and go it needs and I know it will only get worse with 35's. It's running 33's right now with 3.42 gears and it slacks a little. I'm looking to go with 4.56 on my progressive ladder to a 14bolt(4.10's&locker), D60(same), TH400, NP205, and 454.

I think 4.88s or even 5.13s would work much better. I have the 3.42s now with 33s and your right, the gear is too dead. With 4.56s and 33s at 65 I'll be taching around 2200, so with a bigger tire try a shorter gear.....js

Yes, they will be fine! I have the same setup, 4.56 gears, 700R4 and 35" BFG Muds. I got my power back down low and passing power (used to have 3.73s with the 35s!). The fule mileage will only keep going down if you go lower. I think the 4.56s are a good compromise. I have the 14 bolt already with a Detroit, and everything works great. Do the Doubler kit if you need more grunt off road...but with 35s you should be happy on road with 4.56s...if you plan on going to 38s or something, well, then maybe go lower gears...

Ok if we're bragging in reverse [IMG], when I bought my Jimmy it had 33's and 2.73's [IMG] I actually needed the granny low first just to get it to move [IMG]

    Re: 4.56\'s w/700-R4 and 35" Boggers?

Years ago I bought a '77 Blazer that had 3.08's and Dick Cepek 36 inch Fun Country's. I also had to use granny low to take off. A guy at work had a pickup that was a '78 or so, but he had 4.10's and liked to run the weenie stock size tires. He hated the high revs on the highway. So we swapped axles. I got his 4.10's, he got my 3.08's and we both left VERY happy. [IMG]

Back to the topic, [IMG] 4.56's and 35's will give you pretty high revs on the highway, once you install the Turbo 400 you're talking about. Also, why do you want to spend the money on 4.56's now and then buy a 14-bolt and Dana 60 later? Seems like you'll burn through lots of extra cash that way. [IMG]

I don't plan on going to 39" Boggers for at least 2 more years. That's why I'm just going to mess with what I have now. Plus, I don't have the money to buy a 14 bolt right now. Thanks for all the replies. [IMG]

I know of at least five 14 bolts (including mine w/4.56's) that were purchased for $100 or less. The 14 bolt FF's are cheap, its the front ends that cost money. Shop around.

What kind of condition would the 14 bolt be in for $100? I don't want to buy one and have to have the thing totally rebuilt and end up spending more money than I have to, but I will make some calls and look for one. I guess that I might as well get one now and save myself the trouble later.

I have an '86 K5 with 4.56s in a 14 bolt FF & Dana 44, 700R4, 6" skyjacker lift, and 35" BFG muds and mine has plenty of get up and go for the stock 350. As far as cost of the axels I dont know what they go for. I bought a complete '78 pickup with both axels geared and locked for $1000 bucks but it also has a running 454, turbo 400 and 205 t-case, so I don't know what they usually go for alone.

The only thing to consider is that Boggers are ALOT heavier than bfg's and need a little more power to turn them.I would goto 4.88 personaly.Just my $.02

Right now in my 88 I am running 3.73s. This is with a 350,700r4 combo and 35x16x15 Boggers. I am gonna go with 4.56s or 4.88s and I am leaning toward the latter of the two. Just dont have any passing power and gas mileage sucks. Not as bad as with 3.42s though. A friend of mine has a 78 that ran 3.08s with 39.5 swampers for about 6 months. He went to 4.10s and loves it. Do a little research, different applications for different needs.

How do you like the 35-16-15 Boggers? What size lift do you have on your vehicle? I have bought a 9" suspension lift from a guy here in Kansas and I'm going out to scout for a 14 bolt. I think that I'll take the add-a-leafs out and just stick with an 8". If I do find a 14bolt then I guess that I should go ahead and leave it a 9" and run 38's or go and put my 3" body lift and run 40" Boggers. We'll see what happens.

I love my Boggers. Aside from the road noise and the quicker wear they are awesome. I havent been stuck with them yet. I am currently running a Superlift 6" all-spring suspension lift. I would definitely go with the 39.5s. That is my plan. I am not sure how though. I think I am gonna put on a 3" body lift, extended shackles in the front and the ORD shackle reversal in the rear. I just love the way those 39.5s look on K5s. Let me know what you are gonna do and send me some pics I would definitely be interested. If you would like I can get you some pics of my truck with the 35s on it. Just let me know.
