    4.88\'s with 35\'s??

Well I am looking to buy some cheap tires for the road and I am wondering if anyone is running 4.88 gears with 35' radial tires, and how does handle, and will the gearing be to low for those tires. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

well, i'm running 33" BFG's (32" mounted o.d.) with 4.56 gears. its not too bad. you should be fine. just don't plan on crusing over 65 on the highway.

also, i LOVE the acceleration with 4.56's /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

    Re: 4.88\'s with 35\'s??

I am running 35's (34") and 4.56's. I also run a 700R4 so I have overdrive. I ran 32's (31") and 4.56's also. I liked the way my truck was with the 32's. 65 was a good cruise RPM range, and you had power. Now that I have the 35's and plan 37-38's I wish I had 4.88's or 5.13's.

If I had it to do again I would step to 5.13's because of the reality of 35's and want for 38's. You live and learn though.

4.88's wouldn't be a bad choice though if you don't won't go bigger then 35's.

My truck is a 4 speed manual so I have no overdrive I wonder if I should be safe. The tires I have on there now are just under 37" and 15.5 wide so it will be quite a downsize switching to 35x12.5 AT's

I wouldn't want to drive a rig like that all the time, but if it's only driven once in a while, no biggie. My 1 ton has 31s, no od, and 4.10s and it sucks the way it is always screming. 4.88s with 35s would be the same or worse. About 3,000 or so at 65.

if you have an OD tranny like the 700r4, do it right and go with 5.13s now. I run 35s on road and 39.5s off. At freeway speeds the rpms are just too low with the 4.56s I have now. 5.13s would be juuuust right for OD and would help spin the big meats a little better too. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I just put the numbers in a rpm calculator. I figured the 35s would be a true 34 mounted. YOu will be spinning 2893 RPM at 60MPH. So if you just want to spin around town you would be okay, but anything over 55MPH for to long will suck!

That is the combo that I have until I get the 39.5's and it sucks on the freeway. You will be turning between 3200-3500 most of the time.

Some of you guys must have completely missed the question. LOL, I already have 4.88 gears and 37" tires and that is fine, I am planning on buying smaller tires so 5.13 gears would be pointless to me, lol, especially since im not running the overdrive tranny. I have a muncie 4 speed with granny low.

JEKBROWN? I have a question, if 4.56's are too low on the road why do u think a lower 5.13 gear would be better?

What size motor you got?? In my chevelle I run 65 everyday to work at 3000. Its not bad i dont like to go over that for long periods but i will hold it steady at that. It does start to get kinda ruff if i do go over so if you are taking this on the interstate and plan to run faster then 65 i would say NO way to those tires. If it was big block I really wouldnt want to run those high of rpm. Small block you'll probably get away with it. Also are you going to be using this truck for a daily driver??

Don't know if that will help you at all. /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

4.56s are to low, for me, numerically . When I am cruisin on the freeway and my tranny manages to get into OD the rpms are too low. With the 5.13s the rpms would be up and I could get into and stay in OD like I want too.
