I was under the hood tonight checking out a few different things hoping to find out what's causing my mid-throttle pinging when I realized that I can't get my secondaries to open on my carb. Is this normal when the motor is being revved up in park, or is there some thing wrong with my carb? Do they only open when you kick the tranny down when driving?

It's a 4bbl/electric choke quadrajet with vacuum secondaries.........

It will not open without a load on the engine. The butterflies will open with throttle arm movement, but the secondary flap will not open. It is held close with engine vacuum. With no load the vacuum is high which keeps it closed. When under load, the vacuum goes down which allows the flap to open. So no it shouldnt open just sittin there.
