I know its a debated question but i wanted some more opinions. the donor truck is a 72 k20 with 465 and np205, and the blazer has th350 9needs rebuilt) and np205. whats everyones opinions? rebuild the 350 or swap the 465? can you check the 465 w/o hooking it up?? the gut says it used to work but its been parked for a while.

    thanks

I would go with the sm465/NP-205 combo. I plan on doing that conversion in the future with my K5.

465's usually don't go sour from sitting.... unless the shifter has been taken out and it filled up with rain /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

IMO, only thing the 205 from the TH350 is good for is a TH700 swap for a daily-driver rig. I would stick with the 465 - essentially bomb proof. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

i think i am going to go with the 465. i just like shifting. and when im mad theres nothing better than jamming gears. this is the first automatic i ever owned so im used to standards anyway. my truck will be a daily driver unless its raining or really cold, then i'll take the car.

    thanks again

Go with the 465!!!!I swapped to it a few months ago,the auto sucked!!I have 4.10 gears and run 39" TSL's with no problems!!"Granny" gear is unusable unless you are off-road!

granny is also useful in traffic, you dont have to push in the clutch as often, and you dont move as fast as if you were in 1st, and it makes people wonder why you start accelerateing so slow /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif.

I've run both and I went with the auto for mud racing. Helped too.

There's the "granny"/lo gear which is a 6.55:1 ratio. The only time I use it is when I'm waiting in a huge line on the street. When you throw that bad boy in granny and 4 lo.....you can walk faster than your truck will go!!I have 70:1 crawl ratio(got the 208 case).

If you try to jam the gears in a 465 and there's likely to be more grinding than jamming. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif Definately not a race car tranny... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
