Both are good choices. For street driving, the TH400 kicks the SM465's butt. The 465 is a prehistoric, cantankerous transmission and shifts like it. If you're set on going with a manual tranny, run to get a New Venture 4500 5-speed. Shifts slick as heck and can be had with synchronizers in all gears (including reverse).

I agree with the guys, and I would recommend you stick with the TH400 if you don't want to upgrade the axles to 3/4 ton's. The 496 will kill your differentials pretty fast if you use a manual transmisssion.

What's the spec's of the engine; what kind of heads, intake, cam, piston manfacturer, carb.

I have a 496 short block and I am still shopping around for
heads and an intake. Did you go with oval port or rectangular port heads?

    Thanks

im using victor cnc rectangularport 345cc. I have a bill mitihell 496 stroker kit. crane came 636./636.lift. And the carb is a 1050dominator by holley. 700flbs of torque and 750 hp these are the dyno numbers.
