4L80E is computer controlled. Either swap the entire harness from a TBI truck that had 4L80E (fuse panel and all) or pay several hundred for the standalone controller.

It's nowhere near a direct replacement.

LOTS of work and TONS of money. A new or rebuilt 4l80 with the stand alone computer will probably cost you at LEAST 2,500 bucks. It won't "bolt" right up, a different t-case will be needed and the one that was originally on the tranny probably won't work because it is a driver side drop case. You will need a 32 spline input case and the correct adapter If I am correct. Just have your 700 rebuilt with the best possible aftermarket upgrades or order one from art carr or bowtie and you will be in good shape.

Just a minor correction, the 4L80E was available in the R/V series trucks (our body style) so the 205 I got off of that '91 1 ton is passenger side drop. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

LOL, well, you know how common those 4L80E R/V series trucks are! Tons of passenger side drop 4L80E/205's floating around. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

(wish they *were* more common, easier to get the part I need, or replace that 205 completely!)

Is there anything different about the case itself? I know that's a unique adapter, but it's just a round pattern 32 spline input 205, right?

I know that from 85-91 that only 1 tons had such a case though so that kinda sucks.

I was gonna do the 4L80E thing But I dident like the first gear of the 4L80E (not quite as nice of a overdrive either)and even a USED 4L80E is EXPENSIVE you want one from a 93iirc or newer becasue they were bettery trannys. The stad alone computer goes for about $900-$1100 and the trans are about twice that and up unless you find someone who dosent know what they have /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif or really likes you /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
ALSO you can buy the adapter for the 4L80E to 208 or 241 T-Case, also agin iirc you can get a adpater from a military 1-TON truck because they used TH400's with 208's Its really hard to find alot of information on this swap But I would reconment talking to tranny guys and espically TCI on the computer

Nothing special about the case, just not a lot of them out there, and even when you find them, most people don't want to seperate them from the tranny, since it will be a 400/4L80E or 465.
