Does anybody off you know if it`s possible to put a 4L80E into a `89 K5 with NP241 and 12 bolt rear.
I can lay my hands on this transmission becuase my neighbor has a `92 "van" 6.5 diesel (ex ambulance) and replaced his engine with a 350 carb. and he don`t want to spent extra money for the simulators.

  2. I think advancadapters has everything you need for the conversion.I dont know if they have the electronic parts though, the transmision has its own ECM.
Do you have an overdrive tranny right now?If so how does it pull its self in overdrive with 2.73 gears?
    Hope this helps.
Oh,by the way if advanceadapters dont sell the electronics try Jet performance.
    Happy trail dude!

IF IT AINT BIG IT AINT BAD!!!!!!

I believe companies like JET performance have the necessary parts to run this tranny in older trucks which originally did not have computer controlled transmissions. Concerning bolting it up to the engine and t-case, I'm guessing no adaptors should be necessary as almost all GM truck engines use the same bellhousing and the 241 was a factory transfer case put behind the 4L80.....but again, I'm not guaranteeing that 100%. There might also be a length difference which would require the trans crossmember to be moved, but again I'm not sure.

When i understand it right, in the newer 4wd trucks they use the 4L80E transmission with the NP241 ?

The answer on if i can use my overdrive is no i can`t use it sometimes above 75 mph it will engage but i just rebuild my TH700R4 with B&M parts and i don`t want to destroy it again. I`m searching here in the netherlands for 3.73 axles or gears i need them very bad.

Thank you all for the quik response and when i`m replace my TH700R4 for 4L80E i will post it here.

I just got a email from jet transmissions. To get the 4L80E to work on my `89 blazer i need a computer to get it shifting. The hole computer included with senders and everything i need to get it work costs $ 1400,-. Does sombody has a different option to get it work?.

I think transgo.com ? sells a manual valve body that by passes the computer for around 200.00. Their number is 626-443-7451.

If i remember correctly, the diesel 4L80 has a stand alone computer that doesn't interface with the engine the way the gas ones do, soooo if you can get the computer with the tranny from that diesel, then you just need the throttle sensors and a few other things from jet to get it to work. That is of course if i remember correctly.

    Steve,
Are you suggesting that the valve body would bypass the computer and therefore could be a direct drop in to an older truck?? I hope that is what you are saying, cuz a 200 + tranny= +/- 600 for heavy_duty tranny w/overdrive. Yeah baby!

That's what I gather from Transgo, but I would call them and confirm everything, let us know if you call.

Well I'm not sure about 4l80e for 600 but I fouind a 1-ton drive train for 400 and sold the 400 and 208 for 450, pocketing the axles and a couple bucks! Not bad! I'm going to call when I get a chance and begin looking for the tranny as well.

    Steve and River,

I called TransExchange, they handle transgo kits, the part is 48MOD and is described as a vacuum pressure control module that replaces the EPC solenoid. The Rep said it would allow the 4l80E to be dropped into older rigs. It is so new that the rep didnt have a price but will by this afternoon. Give them a call at 1 800 776 1191. There should be high demand once the news gets out!!!!!!
