I've heard that they exist, but have yet to see one?

Has, or does, anyone own a pre-1981 Chevy/GMC diesel with the Olds 5.7L diesel engine in it?

I ask because I need help tracking down a cheap bellhousing from one of these trucks that adapts the 5.7L diesel to a sm465 tranny. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Any help would be great! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I've seen them, but not very many. In fact, I don't recall actually ever seeing one with the diesel still in it! Most of them had already been swapped over to gassers! /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

I've seen them for sale in the paper still equipped with diesels. Don't think I've ever seen one with an SM465, though.

Interesting note here...there is a member at www.thedieselpage.com who is running a 5.7L diesel in a '92 GMC pickup. He converted it from gas to diesel. He says he likes it better than the 6.2L. Go figure! /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

    Good luck!

That guy is also on GM-diesel.com...different strokes I guess. That's kinda like removing the 6BT from a Dodge and swapping in a 6.2...

I don't get it? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Wouldn't replacing the Cummins with a Detroit make it a better truck? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

All right, so the 6.2L may not be as powerful as the Cummins, but I'm not sure I'd take a Cummins over the 6.2L!! /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif

I like my 6.2 as well...I understand it, and it's been pretty good to me so far. I'm also quite happy with the power level as it is right now. I don't know if I'd swap it out for a Cummin's...the Cummin's would have to be awefully cheap for me to even consider it.
