I just found some specs on the GMC medium duty truck site. I had no idea that they even made a 7.8L Dmax /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif. I guess I am out of the loop! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif Here's the specs:

    275 hp (205 kw) @ 2200 rpm and 860 lb-ft torque (1,161 N-m) @ 1,450 rpm. Engine Speed Limited to: 2,400 rpm.

I wish you could get that in a 3500 4x4 /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif. Maybe they'll make a crate motor /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif. I'm sure it a helluva lot heavier than the 6.6L, which is a monster in itself.

that engine has actually been out for a while. Its just an Isuzu engine that now carries the Dmax name.

Did you check out the new 4500/5500s? I believe the 4x4 CrewCab versions are coming out as 2004 models /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif those have the 6.6 Dmax or 8.1... no 7.8 Dmax or 7.2 Cat /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I talked to the Duramax techs at the plant in Moraine, Ohio a year and a half ago when I toured the place. As was mentioned, the 7.8L was existing technology when GM and Isuzu joined forces. I asked why they weren't pushing the 7.8L, and they said it was because it really wasn't a new design like the 6.6L. It was just simply wearing the Duramax name plate.

When you consider that the 6.6L makes 300 hp and 520 ft. lbs of torque, and can easily be modified to produce much more, the 7.8L really doesn't have much of an advantage over it for the pickup truck market.
