Been searchin past posts for over an hour and am still confused on this swap... Have an 82 Blazer with a 700/208. I have a th400 sittin in the garage that came off a 205. Now I know I will need a new output shaft, and adapter for the th400 to bolt to the 208. Will the shaft out of the 700 fit in the 400?

Still up in the air about the swap. Need you guyses opinions. On a budget so cheap is prefered (isn't it allways?). Heres my choices: rebuild 700 when it dies, plug 400 into the 208, find a 205 and adapter to go to my 400 and put em both in. Help!! What to do!!

Have read on here that the swap is a pain and also that it isn't that bad... Well which is it? Thanx for the help!! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I had the same problem, minus an available th400. If you plan on using it as anything other than a slow driver, get the th400. Unless you can really afford a really good rebuilt 700R4.

Anyway, I eventually got a used TH400 and NP205 combo and put them in. I kind of wish I would have went with a rebuilt TH400/NP208 but I'm very happy with my current set up. Indestructable in theory.

For reference, the TH400 to NP208 adapter is about $400 odd bucks.

I found the used Tranny Case combo for $600

Now when you say adapter, do you just mean the piece that goes between the tranny and t-case? Or does that price include output shaft and tc input shaft? $400!! Ouch!! /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif

The shaft from the 700 won't fit in the 400. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif
