Are these two adapters the same? I'm not worried about shafts or splines or any of that, just the adapter itself.

Thanks

I think they are, but haven't tried to exchange the two. Anyway, I'd like to know too.

Here's some info that I've come up with so far.

Adapter,transfer case (K/V1,2 W/MD8) - 15597796
(NP208,NP241)
This was in the part numbers post, so am I to assume here that they are the same?

I also found out that I'm not the first to ask this, but still have no deffinate answer out there.

Unanswered thread

Short answer thread

Another short answer

So can I take this as definitive proof that they are the same?

Anyone else looked at the two?

I've called a couple of yards around here, but I've only talked to the idiots so far, haven't gotten anyone that knows WHAT I'm talking about. Hopefully I can get two of them side by side to compare...

I'm like the others...same adaptor even though I haven't seen the 241 bare adaptor yet. But have heard and come to the conclusion that they are the same thing. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I'll have a 241 adapter in my hands today or tomorrow (and hopefully my digital camera) if anyone wants/needs ID pics, or at least something to compare with.

There are two versions, but they are essentially the same. One has a tall foot (early 208), the other has a short foot (late 208, 241). Just have to use each with their matching crossmember.

So if I got this right (I'm slow so hang with me) The only difference that is between the two adapters is the mounting foot. And that is on one model, the other is the same.

Therefore, if I find a 700-208 adapter that has the same heighth mounting foot then it is the same as my 700-241 adapter?

This may be the best news yest /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I took this from AZblazors post in the "post your part #'s" in the Adavanced Previews Forum:

Here is the transfer case part number skinny:

Adapter,transfer case (K3/V3,W/M40)(85-90) - 15597799
(NP205)
Adapter,transfer case (V3 W/MT1)(91) - 15629600
(NP205)
RPO DEFINITIONS
MD8 - TRANSMISSION/4 SPEED AUTO (700R4)
MT1 - TRANSMISSION/4 SPEED AUTO THM R2(4L80E)
M20 - TRANSMISSION/4 SPEED, 117M,6.55 1ST (SM465)
M40 - TRANSMISSION/3 SPEED AUTO (TH400)

Note bold print, the 208 and 241 adapters for the 700r4 are the same #.

BTW, if you need one of these, send me a PM. I have 2.

Took some last night with my brand new camera, but couldn't figure out quickly how to get the pictures small enough so they can be viewed on a 19" monitor. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Going to play around with it again tonight, and hopefully may have some up then.

An 89 241 w/mechanical speedo bolted right up to an 88 700R4 with the original 208 adaptor.

If you need an adapter for a 700r4 to 241 shoot me an offer via pm. I have a couple here that I will never use. They are the short ones and one is from my 89 and the other is from Donna's 90.
