I have just had my 2.5 inch lift installed, and will be going up to 33's this winter or so when my 31's wear out? Before i get my 33's should i do a gear swap first so i will not kill my tranny? The gears i have now are 3.07. So what do you guys think and give me some opinons, Thanks guys you are great!

With 33's I would say to go with at least 3:73's.

I was running that same set up for a long time. I toasted three 700r4s. Dont know if that is what caused all the problems or not though. I am now running a th400 and 3.73 gears.

I just put 4.10's in with a 700r4 and I'm running 33x10.5x15 BFT A/T ko's.

However, I blew my engine and tranny (non-related) if you'd like send me a PM and I'll let ya know how I like em if you'd like.

Its kinda pointless to spend all that money to only go to 3.73. Go to 4.10s you'll be much happier.

Your right, but when you blow your old 3.08s and the shop gives you 3.73s for the same price as 3.08s, its a pretty good deal. But I would also be happier with 4.10s, like biggray71 said.

I'd say get what you want cuz the biggest expense in the labor, and you don't want to pay labor more then once.

About 6 months ago I bought a 78 Jimmy iwth a 700r4 tranny and 33" BFGs. I just bought a set of 37s that I've been running for about a month now. I don't know what my gear ratio is, and haven't gotten around to taking the diff cover off and counting teeth, but is the 700r4 prone to overheating with big tires? Would an aftermarket cooler help, or do I need to get bigger gears. I'm assuming right now they're stock, but I don't know for sure.

I think you should change the gears first. Then go with the 4.10: 1 gear ratio. It is a good all around ratio for a 700r4 and 33s.
Also. Get a good trans cooler
