Is there any way to determine the year of a 700r4 without checking the input spline count? and Can an early model, pre 84 be converted to a 30 spline input by changing the pump? Any info would help ,,Thanks

I asked the same question a week ago. Now i'm an expert! :-)
River told me to look at the # on the machined pad on the rear passenger side of the tranny. 1'st digit indicates year of manufacture, 5='85 ,etc. No help on the conversion info. Sorry.

You can make your TH700R4 `84 the same as a `87-and later but it isn`t only the pump their are a lot off upgraded parts in the later versions i believe if you gone do it it costs arround $700,- + a rebuild kit.
