i am in the process of trying to get everything ready to take the 400 and 203 out of my 79 k20 and go back with a 700 and 205 . i have already bought a 205 that was out of a 69 model it has the fixed rear flange which is what i want but the front has a yoke. i need the flat flange and have found out that there is not one made for it. so i will be hunting a later model 205. also i am getting a 700r4 from a 88 blazer from another member here. i am going to take it out and have a different shaft put in it so i wont have to use a spacer and i found a shaft thats in the for sale section but its out of a regular turbo 350 i already have a junk turbo 350 out of a 80 c20 so are these shafts that are in a regular turbo 350 the same as aftermarket ones ? i am really haveing a hard time coming up with the rite parts to do this swap so any help would be welcome.

I think what you are looking for is the special transmission output shaft from Advanced Adapters. This shaft allows you to mate a 700R4 to a NP205 using the original TH350/205 adapter. A 350 output shaft will not work in a 700R4, which is what I think you were trying to do. Give Advanced Adapters a call, they can sell you the shaft you will need for about $170.00

    Johnny,

Before you buy another 205 let me check with Stephen Watson and see if he has a used 30 spline front output. That way you will be able to use a flange.

I think that you may have misunderstood the for sale post. What he has for sale is a custom output shaft for a 700R4, that makes it look like the back of a Turbo 350. This lets you install a 700R4 in front of a transfer case that was originally behind a Turbo 350.

i must have understood it but. but it said he had a output shaft for a 700r4 to a 205. but it was just a shaft out of a turbo 350 so i thought maybe i have missed something here / i have a old turbo 350 so i went out today and took the shaft out of it but it aint going to work. what post did you see ? i dont think we are talking about the same one.

There is only two ways to do this conversion. The first and in my opinion the best way to do it, (definately the shortest version) is to install a special transmission output shaft in the 700R4 so that like Harry said, will make the 700R4 look like the back of a TH350, or the second option is to use the factory 700R4 with a spacer along with a TH350/205 adapter. This will make the overall set-up longer than the first method.

thats what i am wanting to do is buy that specail adapter and make it as short as possible so it wont look like a n/rig . from what i understand is all i have to do is buy a differnt rear output shaft and install it in the 700 and it will bolt rite up to the 350 turbo version 205 with no problem that all i am looking for and wanting to do. thanks for the input .
