The only trans I have seen that offers power numbers like that is the Bowtie Overdrive Stage 3. I personally think you would be much better off looking into a 4L80E if you want an auto overdrive that will handle alot of power.

I personally am on my 5th 700R4. None were built for that amount of power, but I would be very leary about putting that amount of power infront of a 700R4.

Well, I don't know.....Do you have a 496 stroker with 500 horse and 600 torque??? I would think that after dropping the kind of cash required to build a monster like this you could have an insane tranny built to match.

Wow, 5th??? That is crazy [IMG] Is that in the same rig? If so were they built by the same people??? What are you doin to destroy those trannys? I have had the same 700r4 in mine for about 4.5 years. It was a dailey driver on 38's and wheeled very hard for the first 3 years. Anyways just curious[IMG] [IMG]

ART CARR makes a 700 that supposedly is good for 700HP! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif I know I know , plenty of guys won't believe it but that is what art carr says. ORD has one in their green jimmy behind a 468. I would like to know what other mods you have done like lift, tires, gears and most importantly what your going to do with this thing. And for the guy that is on his 5th tranny do something different, are they all stock, trust me spend the extra cash and build it up, you can't get cheap with a 700R4. The art carr 700HP 700R4 is on sale right now for like 1,500$ or something which is not bad because you can spend $1200 in a shop easy. The 4L80 is like $2,500+

Talk to Mr. Watson at BF 2003, the tranny is one they built in-house, IIRC something like 11 years ago /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

You can get a 200R that will hold up from PTS Transmissions
Bruce builds them for the Turbo Buick crowd.
He has manufactured special parts for the 200 to handle into the 900+ HP region. The same parts do not exist for the 700R.

    Also, try BowTie Overdrive
They build a pretty good trans at a reasonable price.

The 2004R cannot be used in a 4WD application since it does not have a removable tail housing.

[/ QUOTE ] Check out www.offroaddesign.com and go to custom rigs. That jimmy is listed with the 700HP 700R4, I remember the Top Truck Challenge from the October 2001 Four wheeler issue, flip to page 40 and you'll see that that same jimmy had the 700r4. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

This is almost as typical a response as do a search it seems.
Anyway, yes a 700 can be built to do what you want, like everything it has to be done right by the right person, those people who "rebuild" a tranny in the garage with spare parts wont do.

    1: factory 700R4 went 100K behind a 305
2: I am to blame for. behind 350
3: Possibly tweeked when I wrecked my truck (not my fault)
    4: used GM reman.
    5: just installed w/ 2yr warranty

2 & 3 were built by the same guy and I won't use them again. They were both updated and shift kits.

tranny cooler wasn't installed until part way threw the 3rd trans. (was not aware that it should be used until I learned it here)

This trans is guaranteed for 2yrs, and I had it built and a reputatble shop with all the upgrades and the HD parts. Kevlar bands, shift kit, 13 vane pump, 30 spline upgrade, etc. So hopefully this one will last.

i disagree the 700r4 is not a strong tranny. yes you can build them up and they might last for a while but they will go out on you. lets use this as a comparison you can beef up a dana 44 with all the shafts and special parts but its still going to break on you with abuse. same with the 700r4 if you abuse it it will break on you and with 500hp and 600 ft of tq you think its not going to get abused and break?

I personally think that you might be able to build one that would handle that amount of power, but the life expectancy can't be all the long.

For the amount of cash you are going to drop on a 700 that will take that amount of power you are probably able to buy a 4L80E and the computer. The 4L80E is alot stronger trans and would be alot better choice in a rig with that much power. I paid $1600 for my last 700R4 and I know you can get 4L80E's for around $2200 + $600 for the computer. Someone like Art Carr or Jet is going to charge you $2000+K for a built 700 so you might as well spend the extra money and get a trans that is built for your task and should last a hell of alot longer then the 700R4.

[/ QUOTE ] You can easily spend 3K on a 4l80. The 700HP Art Carr 700r4 is 1699 and that is about as expensive as I've seen them.If Art Carr is willing to stand behind their 700's advertising them to take 700Hp and If I was putting a 500Hp/600FT in I would feel pretty comfortable. I doubt It would go for 100,000miles thoughif used hard but then again I doubt a 4L80 or TH400 would last that long either.
