700r4 to 205 mating, yes i did an extensive search still a couple of ??\'s

First off, I did do a search on this. I know about getting a 205 from behind a TH350, or if i don't, i will have to change the input gear. i read about the different output shaft for the 700 from AA, and also the spacer that i could use instead of the shaft. i'm just wondering if you could just cut the 700 output shaft to the same length as the 350 shaft instead of getting the shaft or spacer from AA. the reason for the ???'s is that this summer i will be getting a 465/205 combo for FREE!!, (yes you read that right) i would just change tranny's and t-cases out, but this is my DD, and i like the auto for driving in traffic, plus i just dumped about $1500 into a beefy rebuild about 2 weeks ago. (too bad i didn't get this offer 2 1/2 weeks ago LOL) i will put the 465 in, in a couple of years when i have a different DD.

as far as cutting the shaft down you will have to take it to a machine shop and have it resplined which would be fairly costly...i would just go with the AA piece...they make nice stuff and ive never heard of major problems with them

    Rebel88,
thanks for that info. do you know how hard it is to change the input gear on the 205 from the 465 piece to the 350 piece?

nope never done it myself...why is it you wanna go with the 205???? why not just hold off until you swap the entire 465/205 combo

i had the same thoughts about mine but i think im gonna go with a 241 in it with the sye kit and save my 1 ton crap for another vehicle

i'm just considering the swap, don't know for sure if i'm going to do it yet or not, but if i decided to go ahead with it, i wanted to have all of my ducks in a row before i dive into the project. the 465/205 is still in a '78 or so K5, i was also just thinking about dropping my 350tbi into it, and parting out my chassis, the only problem with that is that i know i wouldn't very much out of my 700r4, the total rebuild for it cost over $1500, but it's supposed to take about 350+ hp.

i hear that, i would honestly stay with your setup until something breaks or you decide to swap some parts into another vehicle...the 700 208 combo is a good combo when its holding up...ive got the same combo matched up to 1 ton with 4.88s and locker and 42s...mines holding up fine and ive still got overdrive

you could make a bit of money off the 465/205 or hold on to it for a rainy day

yeah, only so much spline-age to work with on the 700r4s shaft. I run the spacer... its cheap, easy, and works. Cant beat that...

there's nothing wrong with my 208, i was just wanting to know if there was any other way other than the spacer or the new output shaft to modify the tranny or t-case to put the 700 and 205 together. all of this info. is just in case i bust the 208, i figured i would get all the info. that i could before it happens, that way i would know what to do to put the 205 in.

208s are crap. Slip yoke = worst design in the history of tcases. chains r fine, aluminum cases are fine if you have skid plating.. but slip yokes..... uuuuhhhhggggg.

If you just put big $$$ in your tranny go with the spacer.
You will need to dissassemble the tranny to put the AA shaft in.
Also, with the AA shaft and a 205 you WILL have problems with trans pan/d-shaft clearance with flanged output 205 and certain d-shafts. Ask me how I know.

aren't you the one that put up the post asking if anybody else had the tranny pan and front drive shaft clearance problems with the 205 and 700r4?
