My tranny is great! It has never failed me. I havr the advantage of lower first gear, and the overdrive lets me run lower gearing and still get decent mileage on the freeway. Long like the 700R4!!!!!

Would somebody please post a NV4500 reply. I'd do it but I only have the sm465. I can however say I have the advantage of an even lower 1st gear.

Ok I don't have a 4500 either but I've got a friend with one in a CJ and he loves it. We had a drag race between his jeep and a willy's with a 465 in 4lo, 1st gear, at idle (ok so it was like a drag race in slow motion) and the 4500 won (it was slower) We were getting out of the trucks and walking around them while they were driving, and lots of people were staring at us... it was fun! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Like I said in the other 700 post floating around, I've had pretty good luck with both of mine. My 84 K5 has a rebuilt that was installed in 92- it's still going strong. And my 83 6.2 still has the factory 700. I attribute their longevity to good manitenance and stacked plate coolers.

You are forgetting that the torque converter effectively doubles your first gear ratio at low engine speeds /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
